Is Tufting Hard? Here's What First-Timers Need to Know

Spoiler: it's a lot easier than it looks. And a lot more fun than you'd expect.

You've seen the videos. The tufting gun buzzing away, yarn filling up a canvas, a satisfying, fluffy rug appearing from scratch. And somewhere in the back of your head, a voice says:
"That looks amazing. But I could never do that."

We hear this all the time. And we're here to tell you that voice is wrong. Here's why.

"Do I need any art skills or experience?"
None at all. Tufting isn't about being artistic, it's about following a design, choosing colours you love, and letting the gun do the work. We've had people who "can't draw a straight line" walk out with rugs that stopped everyone in the studio.

"What if I mess up my design?"
Here's the thing about tufting: there are no real mistakes. A wobbly line becomes texture. An unexpected colour choice becomes the best part of the rug. Our instructors are with you throughout, and the canvas is far more forgiving than you'd think.

"Is the tufting gun hard to use?"
It feels a little unfamiliar for the first two minutes. Then it just clicks. Most first-timers are tufting confidently within 10–15 minutes of starting. We walk you through it properly before you begin, no guessing, no fumbling on your own.

"What if I don't know what design to make?"
You can browse our design library before you even arrive, and come in with your pick ready. If you're still unsure on the day, our team helps you choose something that suits your style and skill level. Nobody leaves without a plan.

"How long does it take? Will I finish in time?"
Sessions run 2–3 hours and are designed so that you complete your rug in that time. The pace is relaxed, there's no rush, no timer counting down. Grab something from our pantry, settle in, and enjoy the process. The finishing (gluing, trimming, backing) is done by us over the next few days, and then your rug is ready to pick up or get delivered.

"Will I actually enjoy it?"
This is the one we love most. Almost every first-timer walks in a little nervous and walks out already thinking about when they're coming back. It's one of those rare activities that's genuinely absorbing, not performative fun, but actual, real enjoyment.

The Short Answer
Tufting is not hard. It's guided, beginner-friendly, and designed so that anyone, regardless of age, skill, or artistic confidence, can make something they're genuinely proud of.

The only thing standing between you and your first rug is booking a session.
